Practitioner of Neuro-linguistic Programming, Certified
NLP Mind Coach
I was born in the north of England and worked for over 25 years as a community pharmacist, managing pharmacies in both Ireland and the UK before training as a hypnotherapist and coach.
The experience of dealing with patients on a daily basis over this period of time has given me an understanding of people and their problems, and an insight into medical issues and treatments which is possibly unique among hypnotherapists. It also enables me to bring to my therapy the enthusiasm and dedication of a life-long healthcare worker.
As well as a thorough understanding of both suggestion therapy and hypno-psychotherapy, I utilise Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques in my work, to assist clients to achieve rapid and permanent changes for the better in their lives. I also hold a diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which I have found works beautifully in harmony with hypnotherapy, particularly in the treatment of depressive conditions and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
Since therapy deals mainly with the past issues and the present feelings caused
by those issues, coaching is an
important addition to the skills toolbox of a good therapist
as it helps me to assist the client in setting and achieving
the goals that are important for them in their future.
Qualifications and memberships
My hynotherapy qualifications were obtained by studying with the Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy which has its headquarters in Cork.
I received my diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy from the Academy for Continued Hypnosis Education (International) (ACHE).
I am a fully accredited supervisor and hypno-psychotherapist member of the Clinical Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy Association (formerly ICHP PGA). All CHPA members are subject to a Code of Ethics and must undergo regular supervision and regularly attend post-graduate training sessions to keep skills sharp and up to date.
I am a registered supervisor and accredited member of the Association for Professional Hypnosis and Psychotherapy (APHP) which also has a strict Code of Ethics and requirements for continued training, education and supervision.
I am an accredited member of the National Register of Psychotherapists and Counsellors (UK).
I am a board member of the Supervisors Association of Ireland (SAI), a body dedicated to the furtherance of cross-professional supervision. I am a registered supervisor with APHP, CHPA and NRPC, having trained with the Centre for Supervision Training. This training is for inter-professional supervision and is not restricted to hypnotherapy and psychotherapy.
I trained as both Practitioner and Master Practitioner of NLP and as an NLP Life/Business Coach with the Irish Institute of Neuro-linguistic Programming, and am licenced by the Society of NLP (Dr. Richard Bandler, co-founder of NLP). Certification must be renewed every two years, and is only granted upon demonstration of continued competent use of NLP at the highest level.
I am a member of and a Foundation Level Trainer for the International Association of Mind Coaches. As a condition of membership, IAMC members are required to attend regular training so they can stay up to date with the latest techniques and developments in the field of mind coaching.
